Selecting the right provider to care for a pet and a home is a very important decision for a Pet Parent to make. The person selected will not only be responsible for your pet, but will also have regular access to your home.

Be sure to contact references - at least three should be voluntarily provided

 

Request proof of bonding and liability insurance coverage

 

Interview your Pet Care Provider with your pet(s) present to make sure he/she interacts well with your pet and establish a "comfort level" for you, the pet(s) and your pet provider

 

Clearly state how you would like the Pet Care Provider to use his/her visit time in terms of walking, playing, feeding, cleaning, etc.

 

Make sure your Pet Care Provider is associated with a veterinarian who can provide emergency services

 

Ensure that the Pet Care Provider offers 7-day per week telephone and email availability and is prompt with their response

 

Make sure the Pet Care Provider can accommodate your desired schedule as well as the pet's daily feeding and walking routines

 

Confirm that your Pet Care Provider will provide a daily journal or "report card" so you know what occurred while away

 

Ask if the Pet Care Provider offers a satisfaction guarantee policy in case you're unhappy with any aspect of the service provided

 

Ensure the Pet Care Provider has pre-planned and readily available "backup" in place should your provider have an emergency that prevents them from completing your assignment

 

Determine exactly how much services will cost before signing a contract
